LAS VEGAS — Attorneys Matt Bartle and David Marcus will present a session devoted to ownership rights of agency data as part of the Agent Principals Only portion of this year’s Agent Summit, organizers announced. The event will be held May 19–22, 2019, at the Venetian & Palazzo Resort Hotel Casinos in Las Vegas.

“An agency’s most valuable assets typically are intellectual property. Protecting that intellectual property is vital,” Bartle said. “We will be talking about some basic steps agents can take to secure their most valuable assets.”

The speakers are partners in the Kansas City, Mo.-based law firm of Bartle & Marcus LLC and have extensive automotive industry experience. In their session, the attorneys pledged to tackle agency data ownership rights head-on, addressing such critical components as pricing data, customer and vendor lists, training systems, and sales materials — and who can lay claim to them.

“Having a committed legal team like Bartle & Marcus who focus heavily on the F&I industry is a BIG UP for agents,” said Randy Crisorio, chair of the Agent Summit advisory board and president and CEO of United Development System Inc. “Learning the ins and outs of protecting what you’ve spent years building never seems important until it bites you. This session within the Agent Principals Only segment will lay it all out for you.”
