AUSTIN, Texas — Karen Phillips, general counsel and executive vice president of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association (TADA), has agreed to serve as the featured luncheon speaker for the upcoming Texas Compliance Summit, organizers said Friday. The event is scheduled for Nov. 16–17, 2015, at the Hilton Austin Airport.

Phillips, who has served with TADA for more than 30 years, was the “first and only choice” for the speaking slot, according to David Gesualdo, show chair and publisher of Auto Dealer Today and F&I and Showroom.

“To say Karen’s reputation precedes her would be an understatement,” Gesualdo said. “She has fought for the rights of Texas dealers — and car buyers — on a wide range of issues. We can’t wait to hear what she has to say about the current regulatory climate and what the future might bring.”

Phillips joined TADA after working for a law firm specializing in product liability and malpractice. Her tenure has included work on issues ranging from lemon laws, blue laws and warranty reimbursement to advertising, finance disclosures and vehicle inventory taxes.

“The franchised automobile retailer is the most optimistic and intrepid entrepreneur in today’s market,” Phillips said. “The everyday challenges for today’s dealer are vast and include numerous government mandates, consumer needs and factory demands. Sorting through the morass continues to be my pleasure.”

Registration for Texas Compliance Summit is open at the event’s website. Attendees who register on or before Oct. 26 will enjoy a $100 discount. More information about the event, including the full agenda, will be available soon.
