CROWN POINT, Ind. – In response to the enhanced requirements of the Safeguards Rule recently announced by the Federal Trade Commission, Automotive Compliance Education (ACE) announced today, a new certification category to address them. The ACE Certified Safeguards Specialist program will build upon the robust Safeguards curriculum ACE already offers in its existing certification programs.
ACE always strives to keep its members current with evolving compliance issues, and the enhanced Safeguards Rule is a prime example of why.
The Safeguards Specialist certification program will specifically address the Rule’s new requirements that dealers provide their “information security personnel with security updates and training sufficient to address relevant security risks.” In addition to expanded online training on the Rule, ACE will provide regular, video-based updates on evolving data security threats to candidates who successfully complete the Safeguards Specialist curriculum and certification exam for the year following certification, and for as long as the Safeguards Specialist remains certified.
By providing certification, regular video updates and an annual recertification exam, the ACE Safeguards Specialist Certification Program is intended to help dealers meet the new Safeguards requirements to verify that “key information security personnel take steps to maintain current knowledge of changing information security threats and countermeasures.”
“ACE always strives to keep its members current with evolving compliance issues, and the enhanced Safeguards Rule is a prime example of why,” said ACE Executive Director Gil Van Over III. “Providing economical compliance training and tools for dealerships is our goal, and the new Safeguards Specialist certification is consistent with that goal.”
The ACE Safeguards Specialist certification program will be launched for in-person certification at the Compliant Summit in Tampa, scheduled for February 13–16, 2022. The program will be made available online following the Summit.
