As political tensions continue to roil the automotive industry, overseas automakers are adjusting their North American strategies to meet evolving market demands.

Part of the strategy adjustments include executive leadership changes.

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. announced that Mamadou Diallo will be the executive vice president of its Auto Business Center, effective Oct. 1.

Diallo has over 20 years of experience at American Honda in sales and product-planning positions. He first joined the company in 2001 and has supported both the Honda and Acura brands in the U.S.

In his new role, Diallo will support both brands’ automobile sales, marketing, product planning and parts-and-service operations.

"Mamadou will help lead our auto business as we drive strategic collaboration across the organization focused on advancing customer lifetime loyalty and increasing value for money as the foundation to achieve significant growth of our business in the U.S. in the coming years,” said American Honda Motor Co. Inc. CEO Eiji Fujimura.

The announcement follows previous leadership changes earlier this year that the company said are an important part of its strategy to better serve customers and dealers.

At the beginning of the year, the Japanese automaker released its 2026 U.S. automobile business outlook, which revealed a focus on “the right mix of gas-powered and hybrid vehicles to meet customer demand for affordable, high-value products.”

Volkswagen announced a similar shift with leadership changes and a focus on hybrids for the North American market.

The Volkswagen Group appointed Marco Schubert as a member of its Extended Executive Committee for the North American Region, effective Oct. 1. He has more than 25 years of experience at the Volkswagen Group, leading several key markets for the brand.

In his new position, he will assume responsibility for the overall management of the North American region. Currently, Schubert serves as a member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at Audi, a role Martin Sander is scheduled to assume on Oct. 1.

The group said it will focus on further strengthening its successful models in the North American market and expanding that portfolio, as well as its hybrid segment. It is also exploring SUVs and pickup trucks as potential components in its future product portfolio.
