Fuel Efficiency Leads Car Guide
U.S consumers hoping to ease the burden of high gas prices can look to the AAA 2026 Car Guide for fully electric and hybrid models with advanced safety features.

For the third year in a row, all category winners of the AAA Car Guide are either fully electric or hybrid vehicles, and the overall winner is the electric 2026 Lucid Gravity Touring.
Given that many consumers are seeking more fuel-efficient models due to high gas prices, the guide is a timely reference.
The Touring was also the winner in the midsize SUV category. AAA noted that “SUVs are often popular amongst consumers because of their versatility, safety, and comfort.”
AAA and the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Automotive Research Center, or ARC, evaluated and scored vehicles based on 14 criteria, including advanced safety features, fuel efficiency, ride quality and infotainment usability. To be included in this year’s guide, vehicles had to be equipped with at least one advanced driver-assistance system feature, such as forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking.
Only one hybrid made the list this year: the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sport Touring, which won the small car category.
But U.S. consumers are leaning more toward hybrids than fully electric vehicles, according to Cox Automotive, as rising gas prices are influencing their purchasing decisions.
New Cox data shows gas prices are now the second-most influential factor impacting vehicle type decisions for customers in the market for a new vehicle. But rather than jumping straight to an EV, consumers are leaning more toward hybrid or fuel-efficient gas-powered vehicles.
