Ford recalled 1.1 million vehicles due to a software flaw that can cause the rear-view video camera to malfunction.

The issue, which affects nearly 20 Ford and Lincoln brands, will be remedied either at dealers or by over-the-air software updates.

Ford says all of the recalled vehicles have the defect, which can cause the rear-view camera to delay, freeze or fail to display images while the vehicle is in reverse gear, posing crash risk.

Affected vehicles are certain of the:

  • 2021 to 2023 Mach-E and Nautilus

  • 2021 to 2024 Bronco, Edge and F-150

  • 2022 to 2024 Expedition, Navigator

  • 2022 to 2025 Transit

  • 2023 and 2024 Corsair, Escape, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600

  • 2024 Mustang and Ranger

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted Ford about the issue in January after getting dozens of consumer complaints.

Ford investigated, determined a software issue was causing the problem, and identified the various models affected. It told the regulator it’s aware of one allegation of a minor crash related to the issue with no injuries.

Ford is scheduled to mail interim recall notices to owners on June 16, followed by a second notice after the remedy is ready for application, estimated to be in the third quarter.
