BBB Warns Consumers of Fake Dealership
A St. Louis County car repair shop owner said thieves are using her store’s address in order to steal money from potential car buyers, reported KMOV.com.
The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to avoid Dream Auto Center or Millennium Auto Center. Both businesses list their address as 2334 North Lindbergh Blvd. But neither business exists at that address. In fact, a British car restoration business is at that location, and the British car business is doing legitimate repairs.
The owner of British Cars said she has been contacted by 30 to 40 consumers who said they believed they were buying vehicles from Dream or Millennium auto centers. One man came from Seattle, Wash. to pick up a vehicle for which he paid $40,000.
Two consumers have filed a recent complaint with the BBB, one against Millennium and one against Dream Motors. Both consumers said they found phony listings on cars.com.
The BBB advices consumers to only deal with established businesses when buying a vehicle, and never send money in advance for a car or truck unless you have checked up on the seller.
