DETROIT - A worker died on the job Tuesday at FCA US' 3 million-square-foot Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, the Auburn Hills company has confirmed, reported MLive.
The 53-year-old man was crushed in a press shortly after 7 a.m., according to the Associated Press.
"FCA US has had a tragic accident at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant during the first shift this morning," the company said in an emailed statement. "A plant employee was killed at the waste water treatment plant. The Company is currently working with local officials to investigate the incident. The name of the employee is not being released at this time. All of the FCA family extends its deepest sympathies to the employee's family during this difficult time."
Authorities also said an investigation into the incident is underway.
As of February, the 24-year-old facility on Detroit's east side had 4,623 workers, including 4,397 hourly and 226 salaried. FCA US, formerly Chrysler Group, assembles the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango at the site.
