Washington — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it is opening an investigation into nearly 38,000 2007 Nissan Quest minivans after a dozen complaints of faulty fuel gauge readings.

NHTSA said it has received 12 complaints alleging stalling because the fuel level reading indicated adequate fuel in the tank when there was actually none. Two complaints reported over 70 miles of estimated available driving range before refueling on the distance-to-empty display when the vehicles stalled.
NHTSA said all of the complaints have been received within the past 14 months.
Nissan didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment early Monday.
