Ford is recalling over 110,000 F-150 trucks over an axle issue that could lead to crashes, but hasn’t yet offered a permanent remedy.

The recall affects 2021 to 2023 F-150 Regular Cabs and comes with an urgent warning to avoid driving them until they're repaired, though Ford is still developing a permanent fix.

The trucks, with a Trailer Tow Max Duty package, may experience a rear axle hub bolt break that could damage the axle hub splines, leading to the truck rolling away if parked without the parking brake engaged or losing power if in operation, a notice by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says.

For now, owners who notice problems related to the axle, including any clicking or rattling sounds, can take them to a Ford dealer for an “interim” repair, the notice says, though it also indicates they should immediately stop driving affected trucks.

The F-150 was the top-selling truck in the U.S. for the 47th consecutive year in 2023 and the best-selling vehicle overall for the 42nd year, the company recently announced.
