The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened safety investigations of Honda, Jeep and Ram vehicles, Reuters reported.

The regulator said issues in question involve loss of power and braking, the news agency said. The probe is a preliminary step before any move toward recalls.

NHTSA will look into reports of loss of power in more than 1.7 million Honda CRV and HR-V vehicles of U.S. model years 2018 to 2022. The reports indicated loss of power at highway speeds without warning, while some reports claimed differential seal leaks leading to rear differential lock-up, with some of those alleging the lock-up caused driveshaft fracture while in motion, necessitating towing.

Reuters said Honda indicated it’s cooperating with the investigation and conducting its own internal review of the reports.

Also being probed are 390,000 2017 and 2018 Ram 2500 to 3500 pickups due to reports of intermittent or permanent loss of braking performance, some indicating that repairs apparently fixed the issue.

NHTSA is investigating 230,000 2019 to 2020 model Jeep Compass SUVs due to two dozen complaints of loss of power while driving accompanied by high coolant temperature dashboard indicators.
